Looking for a job or considering a career change?

The Pure Michigan Talent Connect website offers a variety of tools to help connect jobs seekers with employers.

The website can be a giant toolbox for assistance in finding a new job or preparing for a new career. I strongly encourage Southwest Michigan workers who are unemployed or underemployed to take advantage of everything this invaluable site has to offer.

Residents may visit the Pure Michigan Talent Connect website at www.MiTalent.org.

One key tool is a calendar of career fairs for job seekers. In the Job Seeker section of the site, under “Just for You,” is the Career Fair Calendar.

Recently, the year’s first virtual career fair took place, bringing together employers and talent from across the state and the globe in an online, virtual environment.

Virtual career fairs are a new way to enable job hunters to use an online forum to reach dozens of employers – allowing them to interview with many more employers. The most recent virtual fair was the largest one yet, with more than 345 jobs available with 50 Michigan employers.

During the virtual events, job seekers can explore customized employer booths, interact one-on-one with participating employers and search and apply for job opportunities. Although the main focus is on connecting workers to jobs, the fairs also allow job seekers to access information about career development programs and resources.

For those who were unable to participate in the recent fair, virtual events are scheduled this year for May 13, Aug. 12 and Nov. 4.

Residents can visit the website for information about employers who are utilizing this tool to find employees right here in Michigan’s Great Southwest.

I also encourage anyone in Southwest Michigan who is looking for work or who is seeking a new career to connect with Kinexus at www.kinexus.org.

Kinexus is a local non-profit organization that does integrated business, workforce and community development. Prior to reforming itself in 2013, the organization was focused solely on workforce development for 15 years as Michigan Works! Berrien, Cass, Van Buren.

As an area hub that works to connect workers, employers and communities, Kinexus can help residents meet the talent needs of a growing economy.
