The Niles wrestling team has spent the entire season on the road.

That was until Wednesday night.

The Vikings hosted their first home matches of the year when Kalamazoo Central, Mattawan and Lakeshore came to town for a SMAC Quad.

Niles played the rude host on Senior Night as it crushed the Maroon Giants 69-4 and the Wildcats 74-6.

The Vikings, ranked No. 3 in the latest poll, lost just one match on the mat and that was against Kalamazoo Central. Mattawan’s points came via a forfeit.

“It was nice to be able to get all the seniors in the lineup tonight,” Niles coach Todd Hesson said. “At times we wrestled great and at other times we didn’t. I was very happy for the seniors who wrestled tonight.”

With the match just moments old, Hesson already had turned his attention to the Lakeshore Super Duals on Saturday.

The Vikings are scheduled to wrestle Rockford, East Lansing, Springport and Coldwater.

“We have the Lakeshore Super Duals on Saturday, which are always tough,” Hesson said. “So we will get back at it tomorrow.”

Wrestling at Lakeshore High School begins at noon.
