A 26-point fourth quarter, which featured five 3-pointers, helped visiting Berrien Springs overcome a double digit first half deficit to post a 53-42 Wolverine Conference West Division girls basketball win against Dowagiac Friday night.

The Chieftains led 15-5 after one quarter and 26-13 at halftime.

Berrien Springs (4-4, 3-1 West) began its comeback in the third quarter by outscoring Dowagiac (2-6, 1-3 West) 14-8 to cut the lead to 34-27 heading to the final stanza.

The Shamrocks trimmed the Chieftains’ lead to 28-27 on a 3-pointer by Tyanna Pierce with 1:52 to play in the third before Dowagiac’s Jenesis Green completed back-to-back three-point plays to give Dowagiac the seven point advantage at the end of the quarter.

The Chieftains led 36-30 on a basket by Riley Daly in the opening minute of the final quarter before Berrien Springs caught fire and outscored Dowagiac 23-6 over the final six minutes of play.

Micah McCree-Davis did must of the damage as she scored 12 of her game-high 19 points in the final quarter.

Taylor Hulett helped Dowagiac get off to a quick start as she scored nine of her 11 points in the opening quarter.

Green had a big second half for the Chieftains as she scored 14 of her team-high 16 points, but it was not enough as Dowagiac hit just four of its 12 free throws. The Chieftains were 11-of-30 for the game at the line.
