Setting our priorities for 2015

Published 10:15 am Thursday, January 15, 2015

We accomplished much over the last four years to reenergize Michigan, and we can make 2015 a year of even greater prosperity and opportunity.

My priorities for the New Year are to continue moving Michigan forward on the right path, improving education and career training and helping grow our economy and create Michigan jobs.

I will continue working hard to ensure we are giving all students an education that meets their needs and prepares them for success.

Key to achieving that goal is to encourage schools to work with their communities to offer career-based job programs that can give students the skills needed for high-wage jobs available throughout our state and here in Southwest Michigan.

I also remain focused on limiting the scope of government in our lives by cutting unnecessary red-tape and costs and finding innovative ways to save your tax dollars.

One of the reasons I chose to serve in the Senate was to do what I could to give current and future generations the ability to live and work here in Michigan. Our efforts are paying off, with a state economy growing faster than the national economy — creating more than 300,000 private sector jobs and 75,000 manufacturing jobs in Michigan in less than four years.

We’ve come a long way, yet we still have challenges to overcome.

Michigan is a great state with a bright future. In this New Year, I renew my commitment to the people of Southwest Michigan to help build a better, stronger Michigan.

As I work to help grow our economy, create jobs and improve government accountability, I am also dedicated to providing the best constituent service possible. My office and I can help with a wide range of issues, from unemployment problems to state tax questions to business concerns about licenses or permitting.
