EDWARDSBURG — Michaela Hartline’s four 3-pointers in the first quarter highlighted an impressive first half Tuesday by the Brandywine girls basketball team against Edwardsburg.

The 10th-ranked (Class C) Bobcats went into halftime with a 55-16 lead and rolled to a 63-31 win over the Eddies.

“In practice we’ve been working really hard at getting a faster pace in games,” said Brandywine girls basketball coach Josh Hood. “Tonight, we didn’t allow their defense to set up. Our girls found the open girl and we hit some big shots.”

Brandywine, which improved to 8-0, shot 55-percent (20-of-36) from the field in the first half.

The Bobcats also forced 22 turnovers in the first 16 minutes.

Michaela Hartline and Makenna Hartline each scored 17 points to lead Brandywine. Michaela also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

“The girls are being very unselfish,” Hood said. “It’s somebody different (scoring) every night. When you coach a group of girls that could care less about stats and care more about winning it’s fun.”

Savannah Dixon scored 16 points to lead Edwardsburg, which fell to 0-6.

“(Brandywine) was really on tonight,” said Edwardsburg girls basketball coach Nicole Cartwright. “They’re a good team. They’re 7-0 for a reason. They shot really and they put a lot of (defensive) pressure on us. But, it’s not something we didn’t expect. We just couldn’t quite execute.”
