Sunday evening will be one for the history books as the Cassopolis United Methodist Church is hosting a dueling grand piano concert.

With 20 agile fingers, 88 keys, two grand pianists and one grand piano, Kyaw Than (Jonathan) Aye, the church’s pianist, and the Rev. Benjamin David Hutchison, the pastor, will attempt to out-play each other.

“This year’s concert will be more interactive,” Hutchison said. “Jonathan and I will be pushing each other around more as we both long to have the piano to ourselves.”

Since last year, Hutchison and Jonathan have been able to “practice” more as they sit and play together every Sunday morning before church. The pair can often be seen playing and talking to each other prior to church.

“This is the time Jonathan and I catch up with each other,” Hutchison said. “It just so happens that as we are playing the piano, we chat. I am a better preacher because of Jonathan. He is an amazingly talented individual whom God has gifted with the ability to play the piano, but to also be my right-, or left-hand man, depending on where I am standing.

“My preaching and our church services are better because of Jonathan’s ability to use the piano to interact with me as a preacher. Jonathan has also helped me become a better pianist as we both methodically listen to one another to ensure the music is fluid and angelic.”

These two pianists will interact with each other as well as using a 5-foot, 8-inch instrument to help assist the remembrance of the coming of the Christ child.

Come ready to join in and sing a few carols this Sunday at 6 p.m.

The church is located at 209 S. Rowland St. There is a handicap accessible entrance off of the O’Keefe Street parking lot.
