Niles grapplers flex muscles in SMAC opener

STEVENSVILLE — The No. 3-ranked Niles wrestling team flexed its muscles at the SMAC Quad hosted by Lakeshore Wednesday night.

The Vikings used 10 pins, a technical fall and two forfeits to blank Portage Central 80-0. Niles also defeated Portage Northern 50-6.
The sweep gives Niles a 3-1 overall record and a 2-0 mark in the SMAC West Division.
Going 2-0 on the night for the Vikings were Garett Gruszynski (103), Cade Stephenson (112), Josh Dayhuff (119), Brendan Hall (125), Noah Hall (135), Warren Smith (140), Quintin Smith (152), Fred Kemp (160) and Sean Craig (171).
Winning their only match of the night were Wyatt Thornton (189), Cody Thornton (189) Cody Glick (215) and Alex Bata (285).
The Vikings will now compete in the Penn Super Duals on Saturday. Wrestling begins at 9:30 a.m.
