Bad second quarter leads to loss for Vikings

PORTAGE — Visiting Niles was outscored 19-11 in the pivotal second quarter as Portage Northern scored a 57-57 SMAC West Division boys basketball victory Friday night.
The Vikings (1-1, 0-1 West) trailed 13-9 after one, but trailed 28-24 at halftime.
Niles never was able to make up the difference as the Huskies (1-1, 1-0 SMAC West) held a 29-27 advantage in second half scoring.
Gabe Stokes had a game-high 20 points for the Vikings, who also got 10 points from Tyler Phillips.
Max Schueneman led Portage Northern with 15. Blake Therrian and Daryn Smoth each had 11.
