Stella, Brandywine dominates Bucks

BUCHANAN — In a historic season of firsts, the Brandywine soccer program kept its achievement churning play flowing as it used smothering defense and a blistering offensive performance by one of its star players to end one of its biggest rival’s season in a humiliating fashion.
In an incredible display of scoring acumen, Bobcat forward Dominic Stella tallied four goals to propel his team to a crushing 7-0 victory over the Buchanan Bucks.
“Truthfully, I wasn’t even sure that Dom (Stella) was going to be able to go for us tonight,” an elated Bobcat head coach, Evan Winkler said. “He’s probably one of the more gutsy kids you’ll ever meet in your life. He works extremely hard at what he does and I’m glad it all came to fruition, tonight.”
The Bucks probably would’ve preferred it if Stella had not played.
“Fifteen was unstoppable from the get go,” a downtrodden Buchanan head coach Ryan Catalano said. “We knew he was the one who we had to keep in check, but we didn’t get the job done.”
Bucks’ goalkeeper Cade Vargo tried his best to keep his team’s chances alive, but his effort, though valiant, came up significantly short.
Brandywine outshot Buchanan 9-6 with most of the Bucks’ shots coming from well beyond a frightful distance for Bobcat keeper Sean Danner.
Brandywine senior co-captain Zachary Schmidt scored a pair of goals and Brady Duval chipped in a goal to round out the Bobcats’ scoring on the evening.
The Bobcats will now advance to face the winner of the Coloma/Paw Paw game on Wednesday.
