Rangers fall to powerhouse Mendon 21-7

MENDON — Elijah Klepper rushed for 98 yards and scored three touchdowns as host Mendon defeated Cassopolis 21-7 in the BCS Athletic Conference Red Division opener for both teams.

Klepper scored on runs of 10, 24 and three yards as the Hornets outscored the Rangers 14-7 in the second half.

Klepper’s 10-yard run in the second quarter was the only scoring in the first half of the game that was resumed Saturday morning after thunderstorms forced the two schools to postpone the game on Friday night.

Cassopolis’ only touchdown came on a run by Isaiah Crider, who finished with 92 yards on 15 carries.

Noah Woods rushed for a team-high 111 yards on 19 carries as Cassopolis finished with 237 yards on the ground.

AJ Green had a big game defensively for the Rangers with 16 tackles and a sack. Woods added nine tackles.
