The Dowagiac soccer team is still looking for its first goal of the season.
Buchanan’s Tristan Lee scored in the 36th minute to lift the visiting Bucks to a 1-0 non-conference win over the Chieftains Wednesday.
Dowagiac (0-2) outshot Buchanan 18-8. The Bucks’ Cade Virgo had 10 saves.
The Chieftains’ Nick Carpenter and Nick Labadie combined for five saves.
“I thought we played very well against a tough team,” Buchanan coach Ryan Catalano said. “We battled the entire game and allowed are ball movement to score a goal out of a counter attack. Our defense was very organized and played strong as a unit! We are still coming around to this new play style for my players, but they are learning fast and tonight I saw a lot of positive soccer.”
Dowagiac coach Mike Williams said his team played better than it did in a loss to Plainwell in the season opener.
“We played much better, but were unable to finish,” he said. “We possessed the ball well and played good defense. The goal against us was because of a lack of communication not effort.”
