EDWARDSBURG — Unlike the 2013 Eagle Lake Triathlon, which was delayed by fog, near perfect conditions greeted the 171 finishers Saturday.

Garrett Vanparys and Madison Blakesley captured the men’s and women’s short sprint, while Josh Skube successfully defeated his championship in the men’s long sprint.

Amy Kuitse won the women’s long sprint as she held off last year’s champion Peggy Hasse.

Vanparys finished with a time of 36:29 and Blakesley 41:32 as the two swam 200 yards, biked 6.9 miles and ran 1.4 miles in and around Eagle Lake.

There were 101 finishers in this year’s triathlon.

Skube finished with a time of 1:28:06 as he swam 800 yards, biked 17.2 miles and ran 5.3 miles. Last year, Skube completed the course with a time of 1:23:11.

Kuitse’s time of 1:40:14 bested Hasse by over eight minutes.
