A fatal crash that occurred in Howard Township early Friday morning is being investigated by the Michigan State Police.

At around 2 a.m., Cass County dispatchers received a call of a vehicle that had left the roadway, struck a tree and was on fire on Pine Lake Street near Conrad Road in Cass County.

Michigan State Police arrived on scene to find the driver deceased in the vehicle. Police are not releasing the name of the driver at this time.

An autopsy is being performed on the body. The vehicle was described as a 1996 four door Chevrolet Blazer.
