Former Niles Community Schools superintendent Richard Weigel has been offered the job of superintendent at Port Huron Area School District, located on the east side of the state.

The Times Herald in Port Huron reported Wednesday that the school board voted 4 to 3 to offer him the job, which carries a posted salary range of $140,000 to $165,000.

Four Port Huron school board members traveled to Niles for a site visit Tuesday, touring the district and meeting with 16 people, according to the Times Herald. Two of those individuals voted in favor of Weigel’s hire.

The article said Weigel would begin July 1 pending successful contract negotiations.

Weigel resigned from his position at Niles Community Schools in February after a letter was sent to the school board alleging that he bullied several administrators and created a hostile work environment. Fifteen school administrators or principals signed the letter, while several others wrote letters or spoke out in his defense.
