Published 3:08 pm Friday, May 30, 2014
The Dogwood Chorale will perform at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 306 Courtland St., in Dowagiac at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 31.
This concert is a scholarship fundraising event for the seventh annual Dogwood Youth Vocal Choral Camp. Tickets for the performance will be a freewill offering.
The past six years have seen more than 200 students attend the summer vocal camp, with a growing number returning each year.
Proceeds from the concert will support student scholarships to the 2014 choral day camp running July 7-11. The camp is a one-week music workshop designed to develop and encourage the art of choral/vocal music. Students are from area middle schools (grades six through nine) and registration costs $75.
This evening concert features choral music that includes an eclectic blend of choral and solos, including Benjamin Britten’s “Hymn to St. Cecelia.” The ensemble consists of professional singers with extensive performance backgrounds, and is under the direction of David Carew, director of Choral Activities at Southwestern Michigan College. Members of the chorale are directors, teachers and mentors at the weeklong camp.
Members of the chorale include:
Sopranos: Delaney Beekmans, Heidi Ferris, Jen Gruber, Danielle Keller, Kacie Mercer and Chelsea Thompson
