Having worked in the central office of Dowagiac Schools for over 16 years, my favorite time of each school year was sending out letters to staff members who wrote grant requests and received monetary awards provided by the Dowagiac Union Schools’ Foundation.

These grants directly benefited students with items that were not feasible to purchase because of tight school budgets. This opportunity is available twice a year.

One of the Foundation’s main sources of fundraising is obtained from proceeds from The Chieftain Golf Outing.

This year the event is being held on June 12 at Indian Lake Golf Hills. I encourage the community to come out and enjoy a great day of golf and remind all DUS staff members who have received a foundation mini-grant over the years to show their support as well by getting a team together or by volunteering.

Come see for yourself this dedicated group of people in action, all while having great fun and doing it knowing Dowagiac students are the direct recipients of this worthwhile cause.
