The Cassopolis baseball team will face host Lawrence in the second semifinal of the Division 4 District Tournament Saturday.

The Rangers (15-13) and Tigers will square off at approximately noon.

Howardsville Christian and Marcellus will meet in the first game at 10 a.m. The championship game is scheduled for approximately 2 p.m.

Cost is $5 per person and no league passes will be accepted.

“We are going to need to get ahead of batters on the mound and we need to put the ball in play on offense,” Cassopolis coach Matt Brawley said. “We need to execute offensively. It should be a close game on the other side of the bracket not sure. It could go either way.”

The Rangers tuned up for Saturday’s district with a doubleheader.

Cassopolis split with perennial Division 4 powerhouse Decatur. The Rangers won the first game 8-3 and dropped the nightcap 15-5 in six innings.

J.J. Smith tossed a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts in the first game, while he also had a pair of hits.

Lance Sheteron was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Austin Green doubled, while Nick Baker and Alex Voss both drove in runs.

In the second game, Jeremiah Hartsell doubled, while Sheteron, Baker and Randy Kirk all drove in runs.

Sheteron took the loss.
