An endorsement for Stephen Smith

As election season starts, I would like to offer an endorsement to Stephen Smith for Berrien County Judge. Over an extended period, I have had the opportunity to become acquainted with Stephen and have realized that he is conscientious, intelligent and compassionate.

Stephen has an impressive resume. He received a baccalaureate degree from the University of Notre Dame, where he graduated magna cum laude. He then headed to Georgetown University in Washington D.C. to pursue a J.D. (law degree). Subsequently, he practiced law in Washington D.C. until 2007 when he moved back to Berrien County.

Think about these three questions: Does this individual have the necessary experience to be able to faithfully execute the due process of law? Secondly, is this person balanced and coherent in his or her outlook on life? And finally, does this individual believe that he or she is interpreting or creating the law? These are the questions we should ask every candidate, and these are questions we can be confident that Stephen abides by.

I have been repeatedly asked by Stephen how he can directly interact with people in this city, which is a great sign. Stephen Smith will think about how his actions are affecting the people he is serving and will not look how to best advance himself. He is a consummate professional who respects the rule of law of the government and legal system that, although flawed, has given countless people opportunities in this great nation, state, county, and city that we call home.

On another note, I hope all of you have a great Memorial Day and remember the individuals who have fought so hard to keep our country safe! We owe all of our soldiers, both dead and alive, more than we can ever hope to pay back.
