The Niles softball team keeps bringing home the hardware.
The Vikings traveled across the state line to win the Adams Eagles Classic Saturday.
Niles defeated host Adams 9-8 in the opening game and then South Bend Clay 8-3 to advance to the finals against Mishawaka Marian.
Tala Gentry picked up all three victories for the Vikings and also hit a pair of home runs in the title game as Niles defeated Marian 7-4.
In the opening game against Adams, Kylee Myers doubled and drove in four runs, while Mackenzie Shields added three RBIs, including the game-winner.
Gentry had a pair of doubles as Niles defeated Clay.
“I feel we played some of the best ball we have played so far this year,” Niles coach Ryan Frontzak said. “We really battle and seemed to just keep the lead the entire game in the finals versus Marian. That is a great top-ranked team and we seemed to stay in control of the game. We scored, they scored and we always seemed to match them once they would score.
“I have to say we took some big strides today as a team today. We just have to keep getting better as we are in the final push of our season. These girls have really come a long way in the three years I’ve been here and it makes me proud to see them play the brand of softball we are playing.”
