Tala Gentry had a big day as host Niles swept Kalamazoo Central in Big 16 West Division softball Tuesday.

Gentry was the winning pitcher in both games as Niles blanked the Maroon Giants 10-0 and then won 13-5.

Gentry also had a double, a triple and a home run in the doubleheader.

Olivia Jordan finished with a double and a triple, while Tegan Bays and Courtney Ankrapp added doubles.

“I thought we played well in the first game and kind of lost our focus in the second,” Niles coach Ryan Frontczak said. “I thought we did a great job seeing the ball and driving it. Our girls still had a few mishaps on defense but not big ones. We just need to keep working as a team to get where we need to be to keep winning.

“Our team needs to just keep getting better each day. I am very proud of our team right now and we have been putting things together and creating big innings.”
