Cass County Democrats will kick off the election season with a grand re-opening of its party headquarters and the Color Us Blue thrift shop on Friday, April 25.

The event, which runs from 5 to 8 p.m., will feature a 20-percent discount on everything in the newly redecorated thrift shop, a silent auction featuring many unique pieces, music by The Winsome Hags trio, food from Smokin’ Good BBQ and a 50/50 raffle.

“We would like to invite everyone in the community to come and be a part of the event,” co-event chair Judy Ashley said. “It is not necessary to be a member of the party or to have a particular interest in the party. Come out and listen to the music, participate in the silent auction, check out the grand re-opening of the thrift store and enjoy some Smokin’ Good BBQ.”

Co-chair Rudy Gourdine added, “After the winter we had, it’s nice to welcome spring by getting out and having a good time.”

Cass County Democratic Chairman Cathy LaPointe said that a lot of people were involved in giving both the headquarters and the thrift shop a facelift.

“Several of our members have come in and really cleaned the place,” she said. “They came in and cleaned the windows and scrubbed the carpets on our clean up day. A couple of members have totally scrubbed the floor of the gift shop so everything is just brighter and cleaner.

“We just hope after a long hard winter to have a great re-opening and opening to election season. We figured this was a great time to celebrate the Democratic Party and our headquarters.”

Several candidates will stop by for a meet-and-greet, including Paul Clements, Clark Cobb and Mike Moroz. Visitors will also have a chance to learn more about the party, the candidates, register to vote and sign nominating petitions.

LaPointe noted that this is not a fundraising event.

Smokin’ Good BBQ will be selling pulled pork sandwiches with three sides, dessert and a beverage for $10. Carry out is available.

The Cass County Democratic headquarters is now open Monday through Friday from noon to 4 p.m. and is located at 804 E. State St. near Family Dollar.
