The Michigan Main Street Center at MSHDA Tuesday announced downtown Niles will receive fund development planning services that will help the community create a greater economic impact on its downtown and business owners.

“Niles Main Street successfully completed a competitive application process to qualify for the assistance, which will be completed by the end of the year and is valued at $4,000,” said Laura Krizov, Michigan Main Street (MMS) Center manager.

The service is provided by the center through its partnership with the National Main Street Center. National experts will be working with MMS staff and the local community to provide custom community development strategies for Niles Main Street.

“This is one of the many great benefits of being a Main Street community,” said Carri Harrington, president of the Niles Main Street/DDA. “This fund development planning process is going to be instrumental in helping us set our long-term goals and will provide us with the key steps we need to achieve them.”

The fund development planning service will focus on organizational goals and objectives, capacity and current and potential resources to allow the efforts of Niles Main Street DDA to be a stronger advocate for the downtown and its business owners.

The service is part of a menu of services provided to downtown Niles since becoming a Main Street community in 2004. Other services provided by Michigan Main Street include the branding service that has resulted in the new logo, website and marketing materials for the organization.

The Niles Main Street program utilizes the Main Street Four Point Approach, a proven method of comprehensive commercial district revitalization. Since joining the program 10 years ago, downtown Niles has generated $8.7 million in private investment and volunteers have accrued more than 40,000 service hours.
