Lake Michigan College’s Bertrand Crossing Campus is collaborating with the Niles-Buchanan YMCA this spring to offer free health-related workshops to the community. Other community education classes beginning this month at the Bertrand Crossing Campus include a five-week course designed to provide students with knowledge and experience in home recording, with tools that are readily available to anyone.

Home Recording 101

There has never been a better time for musicians and audio enthusiasts to undertake recording in their own homes with their own equipment. High quality home recording systems are increasingly affordable. Topics covered in the course will include how to make the best of available space, choosing the right equipment, the different kinds of microphones, DAWS (Digital Audio Work Stations), running the session, and getting the ‘hero’ take. Instructor Mathew T-Bird Thornton is back for a more in-depth second take of his popular fall session. T-Bird has enjoyed a long and successful career as a composer, producer, and session player for albums, CDs, commercials and film scores. For more information visit http://mathewthornton.com.
