THREE RIVERS — Dante Razzano carried the Edwardsburg boys basketball team past Coldwater, 63-46, in opening round Class B district tournament action on Monday.

Razzano scored a career-high 28 points, grabbed nine rebounds and had three steals for the 15-6 Eddies, who face Three Rivers in a district semfinal game on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Three Rivers High School.

“He provided a huge lift as far as attacking (offensively),” said Edwardsburg boys basketball coach Steve Wright about Razzano’s performance. “He was able to finish when we were able to get him down low. He also had some big rebounds when their shots didn’t fall. He had a good game and did a lot for us tonight.”

Razzano helped the Eddies take control of the game at the start of the third quarter. Edwardsburg scored the first nine points of the quarter to extend its lead to 37-22 with 5:43 left in the third. Razzano scored five points during that key stretch for the Eddies. Jackson Gaideski and Grant Szalewski each added a basket.

“I thought early on we got some good looks from 3 that we took and they just didn’t go in,” Wright said. “What we talked about (at halftime) was trying to find a little bit better shot and be more patient and try to move the ball and see if we can get a higher percentage shot.”

Edwardsburg shot 69-percent (11-of-16) from the field in the second half. The Eddies connected on only 38-percent (10-of-26) of their shots in the first half. Edwardsburg forced Coldwater into 13 turnovers in the first half, which helped the Eddies take a 28-22 halftime lead.

Szalewski was Edwardsburg’s only other double figure scorer with 10 points. Gaideski had eight points and five rebounds.

The Eddies are looking for their third win this season over Three Rivers on Wednesday. Edwardsburg posted 64-35 and 62-49 wins over the Wildcats during the regular season.

“They’re playing at home and it’s going to be a tough matchup,” Wright said. “They’ve been in every game they’ve played this year. We’re going to have to be ready to go on Wednesday.”
