Edwin E. “Ted” Mallory, 97, of Marquette Drive, passed away peacefully, at his residence on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, following a brief illness.

Mr. Mallory was born on Aug. 17, 1916, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio to the late Ernest L. and Lela V. (DeMass) Mallory. After graduating from Kent State High School, Ted joined the U.S. Army. After leaving the Army he quickly put his considerable talents to work as a design engineer at National Rubber Machinery Company in Akron, Ohio. He worked there until July 1962 when he accepted a position with National-Standard Company in Niles.2-11EdwinMalloryObit

Ted was known throughout the rubber and wire industry for his impressive skills in creating processes and machines to solve practical problems in manufacturing, and holds a number of patents for innovations that he created while at National-Standard.

Ted has been a lifelong Methodist and was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Niles. He also was involved with the Niles-Buchanan Habitat for Humanity

Mr. Mallory was a generous benefactor who continually gave of himself with both his efforts and finances. He was an accomplished flower gardener and woodcraftsman and most proudly a doting grandfather and great-grandfather.

On June 20, 1941, Ted married the love of his life Elsie L. Storer in Tallmadge, Ohio. She preceded him in death on May 18, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his son Tom Mallory and a granddaughter Lisa Rutledge.

Ted is survived by a son Larry (Lois) Mallory of Granger; two daughters Karen (Doug) Douglas, Ph.D. of Clarksville, Md. and Lynda Mallory of South Bend; a daughter-in-law Lin Mallory of Granger; grandchildren, Susan Mallory, Katie Kindle, Jennifer McHugh, Jason Mallory, Laura Douglas, Maggie Douglas and Kyle Mallory; great-grandchildren, Mallory, Luke and Kaitlyn Rutledge, Griffin Mallory and Theodore Kindle.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Niles with a time of visitation one hour prior. A private interment will be held by his family at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens.
