Chieftain grapplers top Rams, fall to Tigers

The Dowagiac wrestling team split a pair of Wolverine Conference matches in its first home meet of the season Wednesday.

After falling to Wolverine powerhouse Allegan 69-9, the Chieftains rebounded to defeat South Haven 42-30.

Dowagiac used five pins and a forfeit to earn the victory.

After South Haven won the opening bout by a major decision at 160, the Chieftains won four consecutive matches by way of pins.

Picking up those pins were Caleb Sands (171), Seth Fear (189), Troy Ring (215) and Tristan Howard (285).

Dowagiac’s other pin came at 119 pounds by Tyler Wessendorf. Shawn Sirk picked up the forfeit at 125.
