DECATUR — Van Buren District Library is recognizing two staff members as employees of 2013.

Library Director Ryan Wieber says Hilari Sabo, of Decatur, and Brenda Decker, Mattawan, are the recipients of the annual award. Each receive a certificate of appreciation and monetary gift from the Friends of the Van Buren District Library.

Sabo was hired in 2008 as library clerk at the Lawrence Branch and transferred in 2010 to Webster Memorial Library, Decatur. In her current role as technical processing clerk, Sabo plays an integral role in making sure new materials are catalogued and made ready for shelving in a timely manner.

“Each day Hilari is here, she greets each patron and staff member with a smile and friendly, professional service,” Wieber says. “She is a reminder to all of us how to promote the library as an enjoyable place to visit.

Decker’s 22-year library career began in 1992 when she was hired as Antwerp Sunshine Library page in Mattawan. During her tenure, Decker was first promoted to clerk, then to her current position as Assistant Branch Librarian. She assists in the day-to-day operations of the branch and acts as Treasurer of the Friends of the Antwerp Sunshine Library.

Wieber says, “Brenda is dedicated to her job and the patrons. She is a creative artist and always prepared to act on new ideas. Like Hilari, Brenda is a tireless worker and a great example to those who work with her.”

Van Buren District Library is headquartered at Webster Memorial Library in Decatur, with branches in Bangor, Bloomingdale, Covert, Gobles, Lawrence and Mattawan.
