A 15-year-old Dowagiac girl is dead and her 16-year-old brother injured after a two-car accident Wednesday morning in Pokagon Township.

Rebecca Walker was killed in the crash, which occurred on Michigan Highway 51 near Commercial Street at 7:08 a.m. Her brother, Nathan Walker, was taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital and is in stable condition.

According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Nathan was traveling north on M-51 and lost control of his vehicle on the snow covered roadway. Nathan’s vehicle crossed the centerline and was hit by a vehicle driven by Kenneth Hoy, Jr., 51, of Dowagiac.

Rebecca was in the passenger seat of her brother’s vehicle.

Hoy was not injured.

All three were wearing their seatbelts.

Cass County deputies were assisted by Pokagon Township Fire, Dowagiac Fire, Pride Care Ambulance and the Pokagon Band Tribal Police.

The crash remains under investigation.
