John James Roman, 86, of Niles

John James Roman, age 86 years of Niles, died on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Saint Joseph, Mich. He was born April 12, 1927 in Chicago, Ill. to John and Frances (Gloden) Roman, Sr. On Oct. 18, 1958, John married the former Sandra Victoria Gili. She preceded him in death on Sept. 13, 1986.
John was graduated from Tilden Tech High School, Chicago in 1945. He was a World War II and Korean Conflict veteran, serving with the United States Army. John had an interest in flying and had logged over 1,500 hours as a private pilot. He was a member of the American Legion Post 26 and the Elks Club of Niles and a member of the Illinois Civil Air Patrol. John enjoyed golfing and was an avid bowler, having bowled on several local leagues.
Surviving family includes a son, Michael (Nancy) Roman of Elgin, Ill. and a daughter, Marianne (& Martin) Bundy of South Jordan, Utah. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Connor and Erin Bundy.
Funeral services for John James Roman will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013 at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles with the Deacon Roger Gregorski of Saint Mary Catholic Church, Niles officiating. Interment will take place at Saint Casimir Catholic Cemetery in Chicago at a later date.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 p.m. until the time of services on Monday at the funeral home.
Donations in memory of John may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association or the American Cancer Society.
