Flurry of goals leads to Dowagiac soccer victory

A flurry of goals over a six-minute span decided the Wolverine Conference West Division soccer match between Dowagiac and Three Rivers Wednesday afternoon.

After a scoreless first half, the Chieftains grabbed a 1-0 lead on a goal in the 47th minute by Jorge Ruiz.

Between the 60th and 66th minutes, the two teams each scored a pair of goals.

The Wildcats struck first, scoring goals in the 60th and 63rd minutes to grab a 2-1 advantage when Chris Mathews and Riley Siefert found the back of the net.

Dowagiac would score the final two goals of the match in the 65th and 66th minutes to pull out the victory.

Ruiz picked up his second goal in the 65th minute and Lalo Meza capped the scoring a minute late to give the Chieftains the 3-2 victory.

Dowagiac held a 20-5 advantage in shots on goal in the match.
