The Acorn Theatre presents “The Hat and The Little Black Dress,” a fashion show and sale featuring the work of The Milliners of Etsy will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Acorn Theatre. The runway will feature lines by 20 hat-makers with styles that vary from classic to experimental. Audience members are encouraged to wear LBDs.
Hats by runway artists and other members of MOE will be available for sale at Journeyman Distillery following the fashion show. Milliners from across the globe who are unable to attend will send a singular hat for display and sale.
The Milliners of Etsy is a team of more than 350 milliners from every part of the globe. The team is based on the idea that milliners must share their knowledge in order for the art to flourish. Members range in experience and exposure. Hat-makers with decades of experience like Karen Morris and Boring Sidney mentor young talents like Theresa Baughman. Though the team has a strong sense of community, this will be the first time that members of MOE will physically meet.
Models will wear the LBD, the classic blank slate, to draw focus to the hats themselves.
Tickets for the first row are $80, second row, $40, and general admission is $20. Go to millinersofetsy.eventbrite.com.
Apparel is being designed by students at Columbia College, the Art Institute of Chicago, and Western Michigan University. Models are provided by The Chicago Ballet. The evening is being partially funded by Etsy through the Team Fellowship program.
