Vikings swept by Portage Central

PORTAGE – The Niles baseball team was swept by host Portage Central Friday 16-5 and 9-5 in SMAC West Division play.
In the opener, Portage Central used a seven-run fourth inning to break open a close contest. The Mustangs led just 5-3 heading into the frame.
The Vikings (13-10) finished with six hits, including a double by Taylor Weldy. Nicholas Zimmerman had a pair of singles, while Connor Glick drove in a pair of runs.
In the nightcap, the Mustangs scored five runs in the fourth to overcome a 4-1 deficit.
Tate Brawley suffered the loss for Niles.
Brawley, Glick and Landon Kulwicki were all 2-for-3. Kulwicki doubled for the game’s only extra base hit.
