Niles girls finish fourth at SMAC track meet

The Niles girls track team earned its best finish at the Big 16 Conference Track and Field Championships Friday night as the Vikings were fourth.
The previous best finish for the Niles girls team was sixth place in 2006.
Niles earned first place finishes in a trio of relay races.
The Vikings’ 400-meter relay team of Maya Brookins, Asiah Brookins, Ashley Love and Elyse Zimmerman were champions with a time of 51.81.
The 800-meter relay team of Maya Brookins, Paige Chaffin, Love and Zimmerman ran a time of 1:48.80.
Niles’ 1,600-meter relay team of Lashonda Green, Chaffin, Asiah Brooks and Zimmerman posted a time of 4:18.87 in winning the title.
Individually, Kara Smith won the shot put with a toss of 36-4, while Emma Doud was fifth with a throw of 32-0.
Love finished second in the long jump with a personal best of 16-9.
