SOUTH BEND – The Niles softball team kicked off a busy week with a 15-3 win over host South Bend Washington Monday.

Molly VanDerKeere was the winning pitcher. No individual statistics were provided.

“The long week of games began tonight and we played well,” Niles coach Ryan Frontczak said. “We really played well as a team tonight. I thought we had a job to do tonight and we did it. We put tons of pressure on them the entire time and just keep on hitting and running.

“We played pretty good defense also. We know it’s gonna be a long week this week and we have a goal for the week and we are one for one. When you look at the line up and every girl was on base it’s a good day. I felt we had something to prove after not playing so great and we did. We just have to realize how good we and be and have confidence in each other and keep getting better.”

The Vikings will host Benton Harbor today, Edwardsburg Wednesday and then travel to Portage Central Friday.
