The Dowagiac tennis team took advantage of great weather to earn its first victory of the season.
The Chieftains swept the singles flights on their way to a 7-1 Wolverine Conference West Division win over South Haven Monday at the Dowagiac Middle School courts.
Kristina Bunn, Sydney Foote, Hannah MacDonald and Olga Dickson-French all won in straight sets for the Chieftains.
Isabel Vazquez and Abby Brizendine needed three sets to defeat Iza Graham and Krstine Osbon at No. 3 doubles, 4-6, 6-2 and 6-3.
“This was South Haven’s first full match,” Dowagiac coach Sonny Swartz said. “We came out and got the job done. I’m happy for the girls because they have put a lot of time and hard work in to get this win.
“We have a lot of goals, so this is just a start. We will just keep working hard and hopefully win come out of it.”
Dowagiac is now 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the West Division. The Chieftains host Edwardsburg in another division match Wednesday.
