BRIDGMAN – The Dowagiac golf team opened its season Wednesday at Pebblewood in Bridgman.

The Chieftains (2-0) defeated host Bridgman and Lake Michigan Catholic. Dowagiac posted a team score of 173. The Bees shot 182 and the Lakers 236.

The Chieftains’ Jordan Juday earned medalist honors with a round of 42 under cold, windy and wet conditions.

Dowagiac also got a 43 from Jon Robinson, Jeremiah Guernsey and Andrew Wild with a 44, as well as Christian Hess with a 46.

Paul Lamphere and David Brogan shot 54 and 55 respectively.

“Because of the wet conditions, if you hit behind the ball the ground just exploded,” Dowagiac coach Van Johnson said. “But we don’t have to reschedule this one, it’s in the books.”
