Niles rally comes up short against Bears

ST. JOSEPH — Down 11 heading to the fourth quarter, the visiting Niles boys basketball team made a run at St. Joseph before falling to the Bears Monday night.

The Vikings (5-12, 3-10 West) outscored St. Joseph (13-4, 9-4 West) 18-12 in the final eight minutes, but still wound up on the wrong end of a 50-45 Big 16 West Division score.

St. Joseph led early and continued to build on its lead through the first three quarters. The Bears took a 22-18 advantage into the locker room at halftime and led 38-27 after three quarters.

The second half of the girls game and the entire boys game was played in the St. Joseph High School fieldhouse due to leaking conditions in the competition gym.

Alec Brown led the Vikings with 19 points. Tate Brawley added 13.

Jared Kunts led St. Joseph with 15 points.
