Hot outside shooting and pressure defense helped the Brandywine Bobcats earn at least a share of its fourth straight Lakeland Conference championship Friday night.

The No. 2-ranked Bobcats were 12-of-23 from 3-point range in a 76-34 win over rival Buchanan in Brandywine’s annual “Pink” game to raise money for cancer research.

While Brandywine was red-hot on the offensive end, its pressure defense forced Buchanan into 27 turnovers, which helped lead to easy baskets.

The Bobcats (15-0, 4-0 Lakeland) led 21-6 after just one quarter and 41-14 by intermission.

Things didn’t get a lot better for the Bucks (4-12, 1-3 Lakeland) in the second half as Brandywine scored another 35 points, while holding them to 20.

Tammy Lee led the Bobcats with 16 points, while Racchel Ort added 11. Victoria Knight and Mackenzie Shelton each finished with nine and Brooke Smith with eight.

Madison Prillwitz scored a game-high 17 points for Buchanan. Alicia Lilley chipped in with seven.

The Buchanan boys basketball team locked up the Lakeland Conference championship, but it wasn’t easy against host Brandywine Friday night.

The Bucks held off the Bobcats 56-48.

Leading just 27-26 at halftime, Buchanan (10-5, 5-0 Lakeland) scored the first eight points of the second half and then held the Bobcats (1-13, 0-4 Lakeland) at bay the remainder of the contest.

The closest Brandywine would get the rest of the second half was four points. Buchanan’ Lyman Thomas connected on five consecutive free throws in the game’s final minute to seal the win for the Bucks.

Justin Henderson led Buchanan with 16 points, while Thomas finished with 15. Kevin Dey chipped in with 11.

Brian Kline paced the Bobcats with 14 points. Alex Ulrickson added 11.
