Game scheduling askew due to winter weather

Published 8:44 pm Monday, February 4, 2013

Many games have been rescheduled.

Winter weather has affected the high school boys basketball schedule over the past two weeks as athletic directors are frantically finding holes in their schedules to squeeze in the makeup games, almost all of which have been conference or division games.
The latest game to be rescheduled is the Dowagiac at South Haven Wolverine Conference West Division contest. The new date is Feb. 18. The JV girls game will begin at 4:15 p.m. with the varsity game slated for 5:45 and the boys game at approximately 7:15.
No date has been announced for the Edwardsburg-Coloma Wolverine Conference boys makeup game.

Cross-town rivals
Niles will play host to Brandywine in a girl-boy doubleheader tonight.
The girls game will feature undefeated (13-0) No. 2-ranked Bobcats against the winless (0-12) Vikings.
This is the second time this season that Brandywine has faced a Class A opponent. Back on Dec. 11 the Bobcats defeated Portage Central 59-48.
The Vikings will be playing on back-to-back nights as it travel to New Buffalo Monday to face the Bison in another non-league contest.
Both the Niles and the Brandywine boys are struggling this season to find victories. The two are a combined 3-for-20.
The Vikings have lost four straight and last tasted victory Jan. 11 in overtime against Portage Northern.
The Bobcats have lost 11 consecutive games since winning their season opener against Lake Michigan Catholic.

Dowagiac gets noticed
The No. 3-ranked Dowagiac boys basketball team is getting notice around the state.
Dontel Highsmith, who will play for Northern Illinois next season, was featured in an article by the Detroit Free Press’ Mick McCabe. That article published Feb. 4.
Highsmith is averaging 29 points, nine rebounds and seven assists this season for the 12-1 Chieftains.
Dowagiac steps out of Wolverine Conference West Division play tonight to take on Allegan from the East Division. The Chieftains return to their quest for winning a division title Friday night when they host Three Rivers.
