Wolverine tournament Saturday at Plainwell

The Wolverine Conference Wrestling Tournament will be held at Plainwell High school Saturday.

All 12 teams will compete against each other for the title of Wolverine Conference champion. Allegan is the defending champion.

The Tigers have won 20 conference titles, including 13 of the last 14. Allegan is currently ranked No. 4 in the latest Division 2 state rankings.

Allegan had six individual champions in 2012 and had 10 wrestlers in the finals. It easily outdistanced runner-up Otsego, which had four individual champions, 236-207.5.

Dowagiac finished ninth. The Chieftains took just four wrestlers. Matt Lyle finished second at 130-pounds.

This will be Edwardsburg’s first Wolverine Conference tournament appearance. The Eddies were the top team in the West Division with a 9-2 record.

Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. on three mats. The second round and consolation matches will also be wrestled on three mats.

The championship and consolation finals will be wrestled on two mats.

Cost is $5 per person and only Wolverine Conference passes will be honored.
