Miss Dowagiac/Miss Congeniality Erica Greenwood and First Runner-up Hope Daniel spread Christmas cheer Dec. 19 at The Timbers of Cass County, where the queen volunteered in high school

“Home for the holidays” to Miss Dowagiac Erica Greenwood means visiting The Timbers of Cass County, where she volunteered in high school.

Erica, who called many a bingo game, not only dropped by Wednesday afternoon, she brought First Runner-up Hope Daniel with her.

Erica, who is also Miss Congeniality, attends Grand Valley State University.

Hope attends — where else? — Hope College in Holland.

Residents’ eyes lighted up when they saw “queens” spreading holiday cheer with their canine escort, Murphy.

When the young women extended their arms for a handshake, Bobby Foster, with a twinkle in his eye, held out for hugs. Pageant director Audrey Maxey also obliged.

“It was nice of you to come by,” said Doneta McCarthy, who posed for pictures with Joanne Gast.

Future plans

“I’m still studying psychology, but I’m considering getting into social work,” Erica said. “I’m not quite sure yet.”

“I’m pre-med,” Hope said. “I’m thinking about psychology or chemistry as a major.”
