Woman hit and killed while looking for missing dog

A Cass County woman was struck and killed by a vehicle early Tuesday morning while trying to locate a missing dog on M-152 in Silvercreek Township, according to a Michigan State Police report.

The pedestrian, a 24-year-old woman from Schoolcraft, was in the northbound lane on M-152 when she was struck by a vehicle traveling north on M-152 near the Cass County and Van Buren County lines at around 1:35 a.m. The driver of the vehicle, a 24-year-old Coloma man, and his passenger, a 21-year-old Watervliet man, were uninjured.

The pedestrian was transported to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac and then airlifted to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, where she was pronounced dead shortly after 5 a.m.

The accident is under investigation and names of the parties involved are being withheld pending the notification of family members.
