Brandywine recalls three teachers

All three teachers laid off by Brandywine Community Schools this past spring have been recalled.
The board of education took action to recall the last of the three teachers laid off during Monday’s regular meeting.
The final slot opened when a current teacher resigned to take a teaching position with Dowagiac Union Schools, Jarpe said.
The other two teachers were recalled prior to the end of the school year, Jarpe said.
Each year, the board is required to announce teacher layoffs before April 30 as per the collective bargaining agreement.
Jarpe said in April the number of layoffs was down because the district had already made the necessary staff adjustments in previous years.
Layoffs are done based on seniority.
