If anyone wants to win the Division 2 District softball championship Saturday, they are going to have to get by two-time defending state champion Lakeshore.
The Lancers (31-4), who are ranked No. 1, await the winner of Tuesday’s pre-district contest between Niles and Dowagiac.
Lakeshore are undefeated against the rest of the field (9-0), surrendering three runs in its Big 16 West Division doubleheader against Niles.
The Lancers swept the Chieftains and beat rival St. Joseph three times this spring.
Dowagiac and Niles will square off in Stevensville Tuesday at 4 p.m. The winner will advance to Saturday’s semifinal against the Lancers at 10 a.m.
The other semifinal will pit the St. Joseph-Benton Harbor winner against Berrien Springs at noon. The championship game is slated for 2 p.m.
Division 3
Cassopolis will be the host site of the Division 3 District Tournament Saturday.
With only four teams in the field, there is no pre-district Tuesday.
Saturday’s match-ups will pit Buchanan against the host Rangers at 10 a.m. and Bridgman against Brandywine at noon. All four teams are from the Lakeland Conference.
Buchanan swept Cassopolis and Brandywine, but split a pair of one-run games against Bridgman. The Bees swept their conference twinbill against the Bobcats.
The championship game is scheduled for 2 p.m.
