Michael Bennett: Slow summer down by catching its images
Published 9:57 pm Wednesday, May 23, 2012
Whether you are a kid of 5 or 80, most every one of us looks forward to the beginning of summer, which unofficially kicks off this Memorial Day weekend.
When I was 7, it seemed summers lasted forever.
Later this year, I’ll be 60 and summers feel as quick as a weekend.
Here’s a callout to all of our readers to help us preserve this summer through your photography. Starting this weekend, share your summer fun photographs with us online and participate in our first annual Summer Fun Photo Contest.
The top prize will be $500 cash from us.
Scenery is fine, but personally I really hope to see hundreds of great photographs of you, your family and friends having a blast this summer.
We will break this contest down to categories: Events and Festivals; Summer Vacation; Backyard and Neighborhood Fun; Summer Sports; My Pet’s Summer Fun; and Summer Scenery.
Our Leader Publications committee will make picks thoughout the summer that will earn special prizes.
Sarah from Pizza Transit in Niles told me she would donate a couple of her tasty meals. I just had a personal gyro pizza there and it was awesome.
I also have some passes for the Lake Michigan Wine Festival coming to Weko Beach in Bridgman on June 16.
Next week, I will publish my favorite picture.
If you have a business and want to donate a prize in return for some free publicity, contact me today.
Front office changes at Leader Publications
If you’ve visited our office or called us over the last year, chances are Deb Schoner greeted you.
We will all miss Deb and her cheerful smile and great sense of humor. Deb also kept me supplied with fresh eggs.
Deb is moving on to another opportunity.
Tiffany Jenkins will do her best to fill Deb’s shoes.
Over the last several months, Tiffany has been getting up early in the morning to get your Leader Publications to the post offices in the area before 6 a.m. You will get the same great service from Tiffany, and she won’t have to wake up at 4:30 in the morning to go to work. She’ll be even more cheerful.
