CASSOPOLIS — A Cassopolis man described as being a “three-county wrecking ball” will serve at least two years in prison for kicking and punching a Cassopolis police officer in January.

Twenty-eight-year-old Christopher Taylor, of 121 N. Second St., was sentenced to a minimum of two years and a maximum of four years in the Michigan Department of Corrections by Circuit Court Judge Michael Dodge Friday.

A Cassopolis police officer attempted to serve an arrest warrant on Taylor Jan. 24. Taylor resisted by punching and kicking the officer before being subdued and found to have marijuana in his possession.

Taylor has six prior felony convictions and seven prior misdemeanor convictions, including battery, domestic violence, home invasion, larceny, possession of marijuana and escape.

“Mr. Taylor has really been a three-county wrecking ball,” said prosecutor Victor Fitz in reference to Taylor’s run-ins with the law in Cass and St. Joseph counties in Michigan and Elkhart County in Indiana.

“He is just rolling fast and rolling furious in a very bad way,” Fitz said.

Dodge told Taylor he has been busy, but not in a good way. Taylor has five children from five different women and a sixth child on the way.

On Jan. 16, Taylor admitted to getting into an argument with the woman who is eight months pregnant with his child, and knocking a phone out of her hand while she was trying to call 911. The argument occurred at the woman’s Graham Street apartment in Cassopolis.

Those actions led to a felony arrest warrant being issued against Taylor.

Taylor was also sentenced Friday to 18 months in prison for interfering with electronic communications. For marijuana possession, Taylor was sentenced to time served.

Taylor has credit for 116 days served.

Taylor pleaded guilty to all three charges April 10.
