Toast to sculpture at progressive party

Celebrate the placement of 26 new sculptures in the twin cities with a party from 5 to 8:30 p.m. May 11 that spans three locations, featuring food, drinks and live music.

Stop #1

The Art District in Benton Harbor celebrates the placement of new sculptures with a party from 5 to 6 p.m. at 210 Water Street Studios, 210 Water St. Music provided by the Citadel Strings.

Stop #2

View outdoor sculptures by regional artists in the 2012 Biennial Sculpture Invitational’s Annex Exhibition in collaboration with the Box Factory for the Arts, 1101 Broad St. in St. Joseph. Additional sculptures are on display indoors, also.

Stop #3

From 7 to 8:30 p.m., the party culminates at the Krasl Art Center, 707 Lakek Blvd in St. Joseph, featuring music by Morgan Ingle, food from Timothy’s Restaurant, desserts, drinks, and new sculptures on the art center grounds.

Shuttle service will be available to party locations. At 7 p.m., shuttles at the Krasl Art Center will also drive guests to ancillary sculpture sites, including the Margaret B. Upton Arboretum and Lookout Parks in St. Joseph.

Free for members, $10 per non-member family

Children enjoy making art while their guardians attend the reception. Please note: guardians must be on-site while children are participating.

• Visit the artlab

Annica Cuppetelli and Cristobal Mendoza have been collaborating in the creation of immersive and interactive installations that mix traditional crafts with digital technologies for the past two years.  Their art utilizes a variety of techniques, from basic pattern cutting to computer design, in order to explore issues of space and interaction. In the artlab, Cuppetelli and Mendoza use an interactive light projection to illustrate the relationship between the human body and architectural structures.

• Walking Sculptours

Tours are at 2 p.m. Saturdays May 12 through Sept. 29. Learn about select artworks in the Biennial exhibition, the Krasl Art Center’s sculpture collection and historic monuments located along Lake Bluff Park in St. Joseph. Tours begin in Lake Bluff Park at the stairway located at intersection of Broad Street and Lake Boulevard in St. Joseph and last about 45 minutes.
