Thomas W. Flanders, 66, of Merle Street in Edwardsburg, died Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend following an illness.
He was born June 4, 1945 in Elkhart to Fred and Harriet (Arbogast) Flanders.
Thomas graduated from Elkhart High School in 1964 and earned his associate degree from Purdue University. He was a United States Army veteran serving as a combat medic in the 196th Light Infantry Brigade during the Vietnam War. He was employed by CTS Corp. in Elkhart.
On Sept. 20, 1969, he married the former Sally J. Tharp, who survives. Also surviving is a son, Robert Flanders of Lansing; grandchildren, Julian, Alexis and Alaina; step-grandchildren, Jordan and Justin. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia (Lamar) Bostwick of Elkhart.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, David Michael Flanders, and his parents.
Funeral services for Thomas W. Flanders will be held at 11 a.m. today at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. Dave Lade of Bethel Assembly of God in Elkhart officiating. Burial will follow at Edwardsburg Cemetery.
The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Contributions in memory of Thomas W. Flanders may be made to either the Military Honor Park in South Bend or to The Museum at Southwestern Michigan College.
