Democratic caucuses May 5

A presidential caucus will be held in Berrien County May 5, giving Michigan Democrats the opportunity to nominate the 2012 Democratic candidate for president.
Register from 9 to 11 a.m. At 11 a.m., the caucus will convene and   local candidates will be on hand to speak with voters.
Participants must provide identification and complete a registration form, including a statement that the person registering is participating as a Democrat.
Participants must be 18 years old by Nov. 6. After the caucus adjourns, results will be reported back to the Michigan Democratic Party that day and made public.
Three caucus sites will be open for Berrien County residents:

• Cities of Benton Harbor, Coloma, St. Joseph, and Watervliet, Townships of Bainbridge, Benton Charter, Coloma, Hager, Lincoln, Pipestone, Royalton, Sodus, St. Joseph, and Watervliet: Community Room at Orchard Mall, 1800 Pipestone Rd., Benton Harbor.

• Cities of Bridgman and New Buffalo, Townships of Baroda, Chikaming, Lake Charter, New Buffalo, Three Oaks, and Weesaw: Harbor Country Progress, 16142 Red Arrow Highway, Union Pier.
• Cities of Buchanan and Niles, Townships of Berrien, Bertrand, Buchanan, Galien, Niles, and Oronoko: South County Democratic Club, 3135 West U.S.-12, Niles.

At these caucuses, Democrats will nominate candidates for president and vice president.  Democrats will adopt a platform at the 2012 Democratic National Convention held in Charlotte, N.C., on Sept. 3-7.
Michigan will be represented by the largest delegation ever: 203 Delegates, 13 Alternates, 18 Convention Committee members and 5 Pages.
