Planning a trip out of the country soon? Do you have your passport?
U.S. Postal Service will be helping by hosting passport fairs, including one at the Vandalia post office Saturday.
The Vandalia passport fair takes place from 8 to 10:30 a.m.
The post office is located at 17899 Mill St., Vandalia.
Call the post office at (269) 476-2654 with questions.
The Postal Service made it more convenient for customers to travel internationally by promoting passport application services available at more than 100 postal locations in Michigan.
As of June 1, 2009, U.S. citizens entering or re-entering the United States require a valid passport.
The post office always recommends coming in as early as possible before your departure to apply for a passport — at least three months or earlier — to avoid any extra costs to expedite an application.
Customers can call 800-ASK-USPS to get the location of other passport post offices and their passport customer service hours or, visit the State Department’s website at www.travel.state.gov.
Passport fees are as follows:
• Adult passport book (age 16 and over) — passport fee, $110 + acceptance fee, $25 = $135. Passport fee must be in form of check or money order and made payable to Department of State.
• Minor passport book (age 15 and under) — passport fee, $80 + acceptance fee, $25 = $105.
For expedited passport service, add $60 for each application, payable to the State Department. Two-way overnight delivery is strongly encouraged.
To help the passport fair application process go smoothly and efficiently, the Postal Service recommends:
• Bring proper proof of American citizenship. This must be either a certified birth certificate issued by the city, county or state; a previous U.S. passport; a certificate of citizenship; or a naturalization certificate. Note: a hospital-issued birth certificate alone is not acceptable.
• Bring proof of identity. This must be either a previous U.S. passport; a naturalization certificate; a certificate of citizenship; or a current valid driver’s license, government ID or military photo ID. Must bring a copy of the front and back of current valid driver’s license.
• Both parents must accompany any child (or children) applying for a passport.
• The passport application requires two recent identical photographs of you.
• To save time, download a passport application at www.usps.com/passport and complete your application beforehand.
